Keeping My Faith After Returning to China

During my time at State University, I was invited to a Bible study by a neighbor — someone from the Welcome Hub community, actually. That experience transformed my understanding of faith and community.

When I knew I was returning to China, my biggest worry wasn't the job or the culture shock. It was: will I be able to keep this faith alive?

Here's what I've learned:

1. Community exists, you just have to find it. There are house churches and small groups in every major city. Ask your US mentors for connections — the network is bigger than you think.

2. Your faith will be tested differently. The challenges aren't the same as in the US, but faith grows through challenges.

3. Stay connected to your US community. Video calls, WeChat groups, prayer partners across the ocean — these connections sustain you.

4. Be patient and wise. The religious environment in China is different. Learn to navigate it with both courage and wisdom.

5. Your experience abroad is a gift. You've seen a different way of living faith in community. Bring that spirit with you.

Two years later, I'm part of a small but deep community in Shenzhen. It's different from Springfield, but the love is the same.
