Arriving at a US airport for the first time can feel overwhelming, but the process is straightforward. This guide walks you through every step.
Immigration Process
Follow 'Arrivals' or 'Immigration' signs to the inspection area.
Join the 'Non-US Citizens' or 'Visitors' line. Have your passport, I-20, and I-94 (usually electronic) ready.
Answer simple questions: purpose of visit (study), school name, length of stay. Be polite and confident.
Find your flight number at the baggage carousel and wait for your bags. If luggage is lost, report to the Baggage Claim counter.
If you have nothing to declare, take the green lane. Cash over $10,000 or food items must be declared.
After clearing customs, you'll enter the Arrivals hall. Find your ride or transportation.
⚠️Do not bring meat, fruit, seeds, or other agricultural products into the US. Getting caught means fines. If unsure, declare it honestly on the customs form.
💡Screenshot important info on your phone before landing: pickup contact number, housing address, school international office phone. You can view these even without internet.
